I am who I am. I cannot pretend to be someone I am not. As leaders, we need to be genuine and authentic in everything we say and do.
This isn’t to say that we can’t learn from others and incorporate those learnings into the way we operate. Doing so is an important part of personal and professional growth. But, if we try to “mirror” the people we admire and learn from, we end up leading from behind a mask. Instead, we must integrate the things we learn in a manner that aligns with who we are.
Employees need to trust that their leader’s values and behaviors will consistently be on display every day and under all situations. If we try to be someone we are not, the leadership mask we create for ourselves will inevitably be removed.
Take every opportunity to learn and grow as a leader, but do so in a way that reflects the real and genuine you.
Be intentional about it…
