“Values + Actions = Culture.” Sitting between values and culture are the actions of a leader. Actions reflect our true values and define the culture of our organization. Actions, I believe, represent the most important component of this equation.
It seems interesting then, that organizations focus an enormous amount of time on defining values and culture but pay far less attention to actions. Just as business leaders have learned to focus as much on execution as they do on strategy, we must focus our attention on the actions and behaviors that truly align with our values and drive our culture.
Why is this so important to talk about? Because leaders are most prone to acting in ways that compromise their values when they are under stress or dealing with uncertainty. We have an abundance of both right now and it is important for leaders to not lose their way. Living your values during tough times is the surest way to sustain your culture and ensure the trust of your people.
Be intentional about it…
