“You can’t get there from here.” This was the response I would occasionally hear when asking for directions in Appalachia. It was sometimes difficult to get from one location to another due to mountains, rivers and rough terrain. But, if getting to some place was important enough, you could always find a way.
As leaders, we often hear the same response when attempting to chart a difficult course in our respective companies. Entrenched cultures, resistance to change and fear of failure often lead people to say, “You can’t get there from here.”
But, if “there” is important enough to get to, the best leaders will find a way…and others will follow.
Be intentional about it…
